"Insecurity" Independent film: Australian Film Released Free Over Internet
Hornsby-based Production Company Releases New Independent Australian Film For Free via Creative Commons

/Broadcast News Articles/ - Australia, June 22, 2008 - The film industry is traditionally difficult to break into, resulting in new and interesting ways for aspiring film-makers to attempt to bring their work to the public eye. Hornsby-native Rohan Harris, who writes, directs and edits his films, has elected to release his first film, a drama called Insecurity, for free over the Internet, making use of a Creative Commons license to protect his work, while gaining industry exposure. The film is available in full via GoogleVideo and BitTorrent. A DVD version, with special features including commentaries and documentaries, will also be available for sale. "We're really excited about releasing the film. There haven't been many films released like this, with the exception of fan films, so we're trying something pretty new," says Louise Bennett, Co-Producer. "The Internet has made independent film distribution much more achievable."

Costing only $250 to make, and shot in four days, Insecurity is an impressive addition to the Australian Film world. A "realistic hacker film", it follows Leon (local actor Peter Love) and Greg (Kurtis Wakefield), two IT professionals offered four thousand dollars to break into a computer network. From the DVD blurb: "The only real questions are what complications can arise from hacking into a small home business, what's wrong with the twenty year old daughter Madison (Zoe Tarling)... and what should Greg do when his friend can't stop watching the girl on her own webcam - and without her knowledge."

Harris, who has been involved in film-making for two years, is currently finishing his second film, a comedy for twenty-somethings called Dead Man Drinking.
