Public Television's "Simply Ming" Cooking Show Chooses Talamas for Production Equipment and Support.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Emmy-nominated public television series hosted by Boston celebrity chef Ming Tsai chose Talamas Broadcast Equipment Inc. of Newton, Mass. to provide production set-up and support for its upcoming season.


BOSTON, MA, October 22, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- For the sixth consecutive year, the Emmy-nominated public television series Simply Ming, hosted by Boston celebrity chef Ming Tsai, chose Talamas Broadcast Equipment Inc. of Newton Mass. to provide production set-up and support for the taping of its upcoming season.

The tapings took place at the Clark remote kitchen studio facilities in Milford, Mass. over a five-day period in August. The first of 13 new episodes aired nationally on October 10 and in the Boston area on October 17 on WGBH Boston.

The Talamas team was headed by chief engineer Anthony Bottaro and video/NLE specialist Ted Driscoll. As in previous years, Talamas Broadcast provided a fully functional, remote TV studio set-up with video switching, distribution, camera control system and audio.

As the studio kitchen bustled with the sights, sounds and smells of Tsai at work expertly combining the cuisines of East and West, the remote control room set up by Talamas hummed with the work of those charged with coolly orchestrating the taping of up to three episodes per day.

The Talamas team provided the audio engineer with six channels of audio from Lectrosonics studio wireless microphones. Back on the set, three Panasonic SDX 900 video cameras provided by Talamas were used for the wing, jib and steadicam positions during the taping.

"As usual, it was a smooth, low-stress experience from beginning to end," said associate producer Deborah Hurley of the Talamas team's work.

"There are too many other things that can go wrong with the non-stop taping of multiple cooking shows each day. So it's nice to know that the equipment Talamas sets up for us will perform without a hitch," Hurley added.

At the end of the five-day shoot the entire set-up was broken down and returned to the Talamas rental inventory.

Simply Ming is produced by WGBH Boston and Ming East-West, LLC, and is distributed by American Public Television. Executive producers are Ming Tsai, Laurie Donnelly for WGBH Lifestyle Productions, and Julia Harrison for Ming East-West.
