Breakdown Services, Ltd. Wins $90,000 Judgment For Publication Of Stolen Breakdowns
The Los Angeles company triumphs once again.
LOS ANGELES, CA, January 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Breakdown Services, the communication network that studios use to communicate their casting needs to talent agents, was awarded a judgment last week of $90,000 against My Entertainment World for illegally publishing breakdowns over the internet.
Breakdown Services receives scripts from casting directors, breaks the scripts down into the various roles, then releases the "breakdowns" to licensed talent agents so they may submit their clients to casting directors for roles in the script.
Gary Marsh, founder of Breakdown Services, was first made aware of My Entertainment World in July of 2008. A review of the company's website revealed that it was posting verbatim copies of breakdowns created by Breakdown Services on its website. A cease and desist letter was sent to company the next day.
When the company continued to post verbatim copies of breakdowns, a copyright infringement lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Breakdown Services provided the court with proof that My Entertainment World had posted copies of thirty-one of Breakdown Services' breakdowns on its website. The Court issued the judgment for monetary damages for violations of the United States Copyright Act, awarded Breakdown Services its attorney's fees and costs of suit and issued a permanent injunction barring My Entertainment World from infringing Breakdown Services' copyrights in the future.
My Entertainment World is based in Florida. The company publishes a website (MyEntertainmentWorld.com) in which it purports to provide casting information for motion pictures and television productions.
This is not the first time that Breakdown Services has been awarded a judgment against an individual who has unlawfully sold or copied its breakdowns. Breakdown Services is actively suing three other companies for similar offences.
